Hi, I'm Rahman.

I'm a software engineer from Indonesia, and outside of work I'm usually somewhere between learning something new, thinking about the future, and getting way too invested in some random interest I happened to discover.

I like being a beginner at things. That's probably why I keep finding myself drawn toward completely different worlds. Recently, that has meant boxing. I've been getting into it partly because I've always loved Hajime no Ippo, but also because I like the idea of putting myself in a situation where I have to learn from scratch. There's something fun about being bad at something, getting humbled, and slowly figuring it out.

Hajime no Ippo is probably one of the more niche things that says a lot about me. Ippo has been an inspiration of mine for years. I like what he represents: someone who starts out unsure of himself, discovers something he loves, and keeps pushing himself further. At some point I realized that I didn't just want to admire characters like that. I wanted to become that kind of person myself.

I'm also into anime and manga, going to the gym, listening to music, and having long conversations that somehow start with something completely random and end up becoming a discussion about life.

I enjoy learning languages as well. I speak Indonesian and English, and I'm currently interested in German. Part of that comes from my interest in eventually living abroad. I want to experience what it feels like to build a life somewhere completely different, learn how another culture works, and see how much a new environment changes the way you see yourself.

I'm naturally curious about people and places. I like exploring cities, discovering small things that I wouldn't have found otherwise, and having experiences that give me stories to remember later.

I also have a slightly ridiculous tendency to turn things I care about into long-term missions. A random thought can become a project. A hobby can become a serious goal. A place I want to visit can turn into a five-year plan. Sometimes I have absolutely no idea where the idea will take me, which is part of the fun.

At the same time, I appreciate slower moments. Sitting somewhere with a good drink. Walking around while listening to music. Finding a song that becomes the song for a particular period of my life. Staying up late because a conversation got interesting. Doing absolutely nothing after a long week.

I care about becoming better, though I don't want every part of life to become an optimization problem. I want to be ambitious and still have fun. I want to work toward difficult things while having enough room to enjoy the years spent getting there.

I'm still figuring out what the next chapter looks like.

For now, I'm working, learning, boxing, watching anime, exploring new places, picking up new interests, and occasionally turning a completely unreasonable idea into a five-year plan.

How I work

I like building things with a clear purpose. I care about what a system does, how it feels to use, and whether the technology underneath can support it well. Good engineering, to me, sits somewhere between solving the technical problem and understanding the person who will use the result.

I learn best by working on things that are slightly beyond what I already know. Hackathons, unfamiliar tools, ambitious side projects, and difficult technical problems have shaped most of my growth so far.

I also like understanding the whole picture. My experience has taken me from frontend development into full-stack systems, backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, real-time applications, and AI. I enjoy moving between those layers when a problem calls for it.

These days, most of my curiosity is around AI, data, intelligent systems, and the ways people interact with technology.

Career direction

I'm currently focused on becoming a stronger AI and full-stack engineer.

I want to deepen my understanding of how intelligent applications are built, especially around generative AI, agentic systems, multimodal applications, data, and the engineering required to make these systems reliable in practice.

I'm interested in graduate study abroad as part of my longer journey. I'm drawn toward areas where technology and human interaction meet, and I want to give myself enough time to discover exactly where that interest leads.

For now, I'm focused on becoming very good at the things in front of me.

Areas I'm interested in

  • Generative AI
  • Agentic AI
  • Multimodal systems
  • Intelligent agents
  • AI evaluation and reliability

Values

Curiosity

I like starting from zero. When something catches my attention, I want to understand how it works and eventually try building with it myself.

Discipline

I'm drawn to goals that take a long time. I like the process of showing up repeatedly, especially when the excitement has worn off and the result still feels far away.

Ownership

I like taking an idea all the way through. Understanding the problem, making the decisions, dealing with the messy parts, and eventually seeing something work gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Independence

I care about building a life that feels like mine. I want the freedom to choose where I live, what I work on, what I learn, and what kind of person I become.

Growth

I don't see myself as a finished product. My interests have changed as I've grown, and I expect they'll keep changing. I'd rather stay curious than become attached to a particular version of myself.

Meaningful work

I want to spend my time on things that have a reason to exist. The technology matters to me, though the human reason behind it matters just as much.

A few things about me

I tend to think in long time horizons.

A lot of things I care about are years away. Moving abroad. Graduate study. Learning another language. Becoming good at boxing. Figuring out what kind of work I want to spend my life doing. I'm comfortable with that. There's something satisfying about working toward a version of yourself that you can't quite see yet.

I also have a soft spot for fictional characters who represent something I want to become. Hajime no Ippo is probably the clearest example. Ippo started as someone who didn't know his own strength. Watching him slowly build confidence, discipline, and courage made a bigger impression on me than I expected from an anime about boxing.

That idea stuck with me.

Sometimes the person you admire is also a glimpse of the person you want to become.

I'm fairly comfortable following my own path. I don't spend much energy trying to perform a version of myself for an audience. If something matters to me, I'd rather work on it quietly and let the result speak whenever it's ready.

I'm ambitious, though I don't want ambition to consume everything else. I want a life where I can look forward to the future while still enjoying an ordinary Tuesday.

There are still a lot of things I want to try. Some will probably turn into serious goals. Some will disappear after a month. I like leaving room for both.
